What does "fitness" mean to you? What does it mean to be fit? We have strived to define that here at Ardent Fitness.

Painting a picture of fitness that serves your life should include pain-free, unrestricted ranges of motion. We should be one with our body, understanding how to move through different planes and patterns unencumbered. External loads should be moved with ease, and with the confidence that we can do so safely. Endurance should be enough that we can run with our dogs, carry our kids up and down the stairs or go for a long hike without being winded.

     Now let's break it down.

Pain-free, unrestricted range of motion: This is paramount in our methodology. Fitness should create a comfortable and confident life, in as much that we can access any position we want to without pain or hesitation. Life should not require a warmup.

We should be one with our body, understanding how to move through different planes and patterns unencumbered. Having not only the ability but also the understanding of how to access any position we so please gives us a truly capable path through life. Having awareness of our body and how to move it is a highly undervalued skillset.

External loads should be moved with ease, and with the confidence that we can do so safely. This isn’t to say that everyone needs a 400lb deadlift, but rather that we should be able to carry bags of mulch from her car to the back yard, or have the capacity to carry a sleeping child up the stairs without worry of knee or hip or back pain. Having the ability to pick something up, carry it, and set it down is something that often does not seem valuable until it's too late.

Endurance should be enough that we can run with our dogs, carry our kids up and down the stairs, or go for a long hike without being winded. Having these abilities not only helps us stave off chronic disease thanks to better cardiac health but also spurs confidence that we can live our life without worry of holding others back or not being able to participate in any activity we choose.

This is our definition of fitness. Not performance, but fitness. Fitness should serve your life, not control it.

These abilities will provide you with the opportunity to live your most powerful life – to Live With Purpose.
